YGO! excerpt: Gunshot - Kaiba/Jounouchi
The last of them gone (for the moment, at least), Kaiba exhales deeply and cracks his knuckles. They pop loudly.

"Kaiba, I--"

Kaiba turns to see Jounouchi getting up from the floor where he had been knocked down. He looks worn out but resilient, blood not his own splattered all over his shirt. It's just like him to fight until the death, Kaiba thinks, and briefly wonders how long Jounouchi had been fighting before he had entered the scene.

"Kaiba, I..." He hesitates, squinting at Kaiba as if trying to figure him out. He finally settles for something safe: "Thank you."

Kaiba gives him a miniscule smile, his lips just barely curving upwards. But Jounouchi notices, and is not unaffected by it. The blush on the pup's face is endearing, really. Kaiba scowls for a second before giving up. He's tired of fighting it. He's attracted to Jounouchi and he can't deny it anymore.

"Kaiba," Jounouchi says. Kaiba grunts. "I--I've been thinking." Kaiba snorts, but Jounouchi ignores him. "I really... I mean to say... If we survive this--I mean, after all of this is over... Would you like to go out to dinner with me?"



The brunette looks at him, face blank. Hell, his mind feels blank! Is he asking me out? is his first thought. A date! Jounouchi wanted to go on a date with him! His stomach suddenly decides to do cartwheels. He opens his mouth to speak but then he suddenly tenses.

Jounouchi looks at the silent Kaiba, puzzled. Was that a no, then? He cringes, readying himself for the rejection. It was all right.... They'd still be friends, right? Sure, it'd be a little awkward for a while, but they'd get over it, right? He chews on his bottom lip, worried. What if Kaiba freaked? He'd thought he'd been reading all the signs correctly, too... Maybe he needs to borrow one of Anzu's girly magazines with those lists on "How to Tell If Your Male Friend Likes You"--

Lost in his thoughts, he doesn't notice the figure sneaking up behind him until the gunshot goes off. Twice.



Pain floods his system and he doubles over, coughing. The blood that comes out mixes with the blood on his shirt. For one insane moment, he mourns the lost of one his favorite shirts.

Jounouchi hears Kaiba scream his name before the world turns black.
